Flower Care

Image Flower picks only the freshest flowers to make sure they last longer for you. Now it's your turn to care for your flowers. Here’s a quick guide to help you care for your flower arrangement properly so you get to enjoy the beautiful flowers longer.

Fresh water every day

The quality of water plays a big role in the longevity of a flower's life. It is important, to keep the water clean in order to protect and preserve the flower. Change the water daily using lukewarm water mixed with the proper amount of fresh flower food. Avoid cold or hot water as it will ‘shock’ your flowers. This may seem troublesome but you will be amazed at the results and notice a difference in the flowers’ life-span.

Re-cut the flower stems

Before you remove the flowers from the arrangement into a vase, make sure you cut the stems about 3/4" to one inch from the bottom of the stem and cut the stem at an angle. Repeat this action every few days. This will allow the flower to absorb water better. Use a sharp knife, sharp floral cutter or scissors. Do not smash or pierce the stems, as this can destroy the water vessels in the stem and prevent water absorption. Remove any leaves or damaged blooms that falls below the waterline in the vase.

Place flowers in a cool spot

The ideal temperature for most flowers is between 18 to 22 degrees Celsius. Make sure the flowers are kept:

  • away from direct sunlight or near heat-generating appliances which can cause flowers to dehydrate.
  • away from ceiling fans or drafts as this will cause excessive water evaporation and wilting.
  • away from ripening fruit as the fruit releases tiny amounts of ethylene gas that can age your flowers prematurely.
